You should know that various conveniences are available in the Mauricie through a number of different services, including a reception service, to help you settle and integrate smoothly in your new environment. You'll also have access to several resources that will help you in your job search. Please note that these resources are well distributed across the region and they provide a more personalized follow-up than in major urban centres.

Note: This is an overview of the services the Mauricie region has to offer. For more details on the services available at the local level, visit the various SANA sites or our Resources section.

Services d'accueil des nouveaux arrivants (SANA) (Top)

Health Care, Social Services and Community Resources (Top)

Note: Health services may be different depending on the area (MRC Maskinongé, Shawinigan, etc.), but they're equal in quality ans scope throughout the region. That's why we strongly urge you to check with your local newcomers aid service (SANA) to get a full picture of the services provided in your area.

Still, here is an overview of the health services available in the Mauricie:

  • The Centre hospitalier régional de Trois-Rivières (CHRTR);

  • And five Health and Social Services Centers (CSSS) for the different areas of the region (Shawinigan, Haut St-Maurice, Maskinongé.). The CSSS are local health services networks that normally include Local Community Service Centers (CLSC) and Long Term Care Centers (CHSLD). It should be noted that some of the region's CSSS also include a hospital with a more local focus.

  • Several doctors provide patient follow-ups in various settings (family medicine clinics, physician's office and others) throughout the region.

  • A major community resources network, spearheaded by many volunteers throughout the region.

Education (Top)

You'll have access to a first rate education system that includes:

  • A public school system under the jurisdiction of two school boards (de l'Énergie and Chemin-du-Roy), as well as private primary and secondary institutions;

  • Several college-level institutions (Cégep de Trois-Rivières, Collège Shawinigan and Collège Laflèche) (for technical and pre-university education);

  • Several technical and vocational centers;

  • A university of international stature: the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR).

Day Care (Top)

We have over 50 early childhood centers (CPE) and day-care centers throughout our region. You'll even find day-care in some of the region's primary schools. This means you should have no problems getting your child into one of these institutions, close to your home, at an affordable price (in public day-care institutions, you'll pay $7 a day). Visit the Immigration Québec website, Education Section, to get more details.

Job Search Support Services (Top)

Stratégie Carrière is an organization that will help you in your job search from your home country (see the Employment Section in Resources). You'll also find locally, in the Mauricie region, a job search center (centre de recherche d'emploi), local employment centers (centres locaux d'emploi) and youth employment centers (carrefours jeunesse-emploi) that will support and guide you in your search.

Transportation Services (Top)

You'll have access to a mass transit system in the region's two largest cities, i.e. Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan, and also public transport in some rural communities.

Business and Regional Development Support Organizations (Top)

Each area in the Mauricie region (Haut St-Maurice, MRC Mékinac.) is served by a Centre local de développement (CLD) and a Société d'aide au développement des collectivités (SADC).
