Proximity and Road Access
Interregional Transportation Network
Intraregional Transportation
The Mauricie region offers unparalleled proximity to Québec's major urban centres. Being located in the heart of Québec, midway between Montreal and Quebec City (about 160 km or 2 hours by road), its residents have easy access to these major centres. (See the section Where is the Mauricie on this site.)
Access roads to the region include autoroutes 30, 40 and 55. The Laviolette Bridge provides a link between the Mauricie and the Centre-du-Québec region. Also, an extensive road network within the Mauricie region makes it easy to travel north, south, east and west (visit the Transports Québec website to get a road map of the Mauricie region).
A reliable transportation network, including an intercity bus terminal in Trois-Rivières, provides regular links between the Mauricie and other Québec regions. (visit the Orléans Express website)
This same company (Orléans Express) also offers good
connections within the region with a bus route between the Mauricie's major cities. In addition, mass transit systems are operated in Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan.
Several of the Mauricie's rural communities also have public transport systems. This type of transportation is designed to consolidate various existing
systems (school transportation, specialized transportation for health and social services institutions, private carriers such as taxis, etc.), with the addition of a private component to
ensure a seamless service throughout the travelling system (See our section Resource Links in transportation.)
