If you intend to emigrate to Québec and settle in the Mauricie region, you should know that an immigrant population from diverse backgrounds has laid down roots and
played an active role in our region over the past several decades. In fact, the region’s development has historically been driven to a large extent by newcomers from other
countries, who have invested here economically and socially (see the history section). Furthermore, the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières has
attracted a significant number of international professors, researchers and students since its founding, in 1969, which has definitely enhanced the region’s standing, even
outside the country, in recent years. It should also be pointed out that a reception and settlement service that has been in operation in Trois-Rivières for about 40 years has
helped about a hundred immigrants settle in our region every year.
On the other hand, we can’t disregard the willingness of the community to make immigration one of the drivers of regional development, which means immigrants are getting involved in local and regional consultation proceedings, and immigration is being included in the region’s strategic orientations. Also, with its reception services network in the process of consolidation, which provides guidance and support to immigrants wishing to settle in our region, the Mauricie is asserting itself more than ever as a welcoming place and a choice destination for immigrants.
